• All have sinned

• By grace, not of works

  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Ephesians 2:8

• Justified by faith

  Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. Romans 3:28

• Christ died for our sins, and rose again

• Created unto good works

  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

How others read it

• Faith without works is dead

  Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. James 2:17

  I will shew thee my faith by my works. James 2:18

  Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. James 2:24

  Protestants read James 2 as works showing that faith is real (2:18). Catholic and Orthodox Christians read 2:24 as works having a part in being made right with God.
